Townsfolk are all characters in Who Stole My Beard?. They are the people who live in and around Beardsville. Each character has a daily routine, so they can be located in different sections of the city depending on the in game time of the day.
Other townsfolk are broken up into Suspects and Citizens. All characters, regardless whether they are suspects or citizens, will have one of the 23 types of beard in the game.
Suspects are the main plot characters who the player will have a deeper interaction with - in the forms of quests, dialog, giving gifts and general plot events. Every suspect will have a favor icon over them (a heart), which indicates the current level of favor you have with them. Each has unique motivations, and all suspects will play a role at the end of the game. To gain favor with suspects you can help them with their requests, and also give them gifts.

Citizens are characters who don't feature in the main plot line, and with whom you do not have a particular favor (like/dislike). They still have individual schedules and roles within the town, but do not affect the the end of the game like suspects do. As such, they do not have heart icons indicating favor. Citizens may still provide quests, clues and advice. Dialog with citizens may be custom or randomly selected, depending on the citizen. You cannot give gifts to citizens.
